The indoor dining room seats 20 and is the part guests photograph. The ceiling was conceived by the artist Sinem Disli: 33 handmade iridescent yellow light fixtures positioned to recreate the night sky over Manhattan, with yellow LEDs tracing 33 constellations and blue iridescent bulbs standing in for the 12 signs of the zodiac. You can find your own zodiac in it. No other event venue in Midtown Manhattan has that ceiling, and the room does half the decorating before anyone hangs a banner.

AYZA’s flower-filled, heated garden gives private gatherings a distinctive setting across the seasons. What to Decide Before You Book

• Format before headcount. Twenty seated and forty standing are two different evenings in the same building. Decide which one you are throwing, then count heads.
• The date, honestly. December, graduation season and the weeks of the big Midtown conferences go first. Three to six months out for those, six to eight weeks for a quiet Tuesday.
• Indoor or patio. The dining room is the intimate one, the patio is the one that moves. Groups over 25 usually want the patio.
