Ayza Wine Bar NYC | Wine & Chocolate Bar in Midtown Manhattan

Choosing from a drinks list is oddly hard when you are three people deep at the bar and everyone is waiting. So here is a shortcut with no downside: happy hour drinks by zodiac sign, matched to what is actually pouring at AYZA Wine & Chocolate Bar in Midtown between 4 and 6 pm. Take it as seriously as you like. The drinks are real, the prices are real, and at worst you end up with something you would not otherwise have ordered.
Quick answer: Happy hour at AYZA runs Sunday to Friday from 4 to 6 pm at 11 West 31st Street. Selected wines are $7 a glass or $25 a bottle, Sangria and the Lavender Martini and Classic Chocolate Martini are $10, and beer is $6. Saturday is excluded. Fire signs get the mezcal end of the menu, earth signs the reds, air signs the sparkling and floral, water signs the chocolate.

| When | Sunday to Friday, 4 to 6 pm. Saturday excluded |
| Wine | $7 a glass or $25 a bottle, selected prosecco, white, rosé and red |
| Cocktails | Sangria, Lavender Martini and Classic Chocolate Martini at $10 |
| Beer | $6, selection varies |
| Where | 11 West 31st Street, three blocks from Herald Square |
Which wines are included rotates, so check the happy hour menu or ask when you sit down. Outside those two hours, the full cocktails and wines list applies: wines $13 to $21 a glass, Chocolate Martinis at $19, house cocktails at $17 and mocktails at $14.
| Sign | Dates | At happy hour | Off the full menu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 21 Mar to 19 Apr | $7 red | Fiery Mezcal, $17 |
| Taurus | 20 Apr to 20 May | $10 Classic Chocolate Martini | First Date Fondue with a red, $31 |
| Gemini | 21 May to 20 Jun | $7 prosecco | Six Mini Chocolate Martinis for Two, $57 |
| Cancer | 21 Jun to 22 Jul | $10 Classic Chocolate Martini | White Chocolate Martini, $19 |
| Leo | 23 Jul to 22 Aug | $7 prosecco | No. 19 Chocolate Martini, $26 |
| Virgo | 23 Aug to 22 Sep | $7 white | Grüner Veltliner, $17 |
| Libra | 23 Sep to 22 Oct | $10 Lavender Martini | Rosé Experience pairing, $42 |
| Scorpio | 23 Oct to 21 Nov | $7 red | Chocolate Manhattan, $17 |
| Sagittarius | 22 Nov to 21 Dec | $10 Sangria | Melon Margarita, $17 |
| Capricorn | 22 Dec to 19 Jan | $25 bottle of red | Bully Hill Cabernet Franc, $59 a bottle |
| Aquarius | 20 Jan to 18 Feb | $10 Lavender Martini | Floral Spritz mocktail, $14 |
| Pisces | 19 Feb to 20 Mar | $7 rosé | Raspberry Chocolate Martini, $19 |
Aries decides before the menu has finished being handed round, so give them something with an edge. At happy hour that is the $7 red. Off the full list it is the Fiery Mezcal at $17, built on 400 Conejos mezcal with Aperol, prickly pear, jalapeño and fresh lime. It is the only drink on the menu with heat in it, which is the point.
Prosecco at $7 works for the arrival, but Leo is really here for the No. 19, the house Chocolate Martini at $26 and the richest thing on the list. It arrives looking like an occasion, which is the correct outcome for a Leo at 6 pm on a Thursday.
Sangria at $10, because it is the least fussy drink on the happy hour list and Sagittarius is already talking about where you are going next. If you stay, the Melon Margarita at $17 with Casa Amigos Blanco, Midori and Cointreau is the one to move on to.
No sign is better served by this particular bar. The Classic Chocolate Martini is $10 at happy hour rather than $19, and the First Date Fondue for Two at $31 is exactly the kind of slow, generous, entirely unnecessary order a Taurus is right about. Choose the 70 percent dark for $4 more.
Virgo will want to know what the $7 white actually is before committing, which is fair. Off the full menu, the Dr. Konstantin Frank Grüner Veltliner at $17 is the thinking order: dry, precise, from the Finger Lakes, and specific enough to have an opinion about afterwards.
The $25 bottle. Capricorn worked out before sitting down that a bottle between two beats four glasses, and Capricorn is correct. If the occasion warrants the full list, the Bully Hill Cabernet Franc at $59 a bottle is the sensible splurge, and ordering a board takes another 15 percent off it.

Prosecco at $7 to start, because it commits to nothing. Then Six Mini Chocolate Martinis for Two at $57, which is raspberry, espresso and white chocolate twice over and solves the Gemini problem entirely: you do not have to choose, you just have to share.
The Lavender Martini at $10, made with Gun Powder gin, Cointreau, prosecco, lavender and fresh lime. If the evening is going to continue, the Rosé Experience pairing at $42 puts three rosés against three Jacques Torres bonbons, which is the most Libra order on the menu.
Lavender Martini at $10 for the butterfly pea and lavender end of things. But the genuinely Aquarius order is the Floral Spritz mocktail at $14, made with lavender, butterfly pea flower, lemon and a sparkling non alcoholic wine. It is the drink nobody else at the table thought of, which is the whole brief.
Something comforting and sweet. The Classic Chocolate Martini at $10, or the White Chocolate version at $19 off the full list, which is the softest drink on the menu and pairs with almost everything on the Sweet Treats list.
The $7 red at happy hour, then the Chocolate Manhattan at $17: chocolate bourbon, Carpano Antica Formula, chocolate bitters and a brandied cherry. It is the most serious drink on the cocktail list and the least sweet of the chocolate options, which is exactly the Scorpio position.
Rosé at $7, then the Raspberry Chocolate Martini at $19. Or, if the mood is right, the Midnight Bloom mocktail at $14 with cold brew, cacao, fleur de sel and rose water, which reads more like a dessert than a drink and is the better order under the light installation.
Two mocktails are on the menu at $14 and both are made to order rather than poured from a bottle. The Floral Spritz combines lavender, butterfly pea flower, lemon juice and a sparkling non alcoholic wine. The Midnight Bloom is cold brew, cacao, fleur de sel and rose water, and is closer to dessert than to a soft drink.
Neither is included in the happy hour pricing, but both arrive looking like a cocktail, which matters more than the two dollars at a table where everyone else is drinking. Whatever your sign, that is the practical point.
Happy hour covers drinks, not food, but the kitchen is open from 4 pm. The cheapest useful orders are the Classic Hummus Dip at $11 and the Truffle Waffle Fries at $11. The White Truffle Pizza at $16 is the fastest thing that feels like a meal.
If the group is staying, order a board. The Fromage Board is $35 and the Maison Board $39, both for two, and either one takes 15 percent off any bottle of wine. Combined with the $25 happy hour bottle, that is the least expensive good evening on the menu.
Sunday to Friday from 4 to 6 pm at 11 West 31st Street. Saturday is excluded. Selected wines are $7 a glass or $25 a bottle, selected cocktails are $10 and beer is $6.
Fire signs suit the reds and the Fiery Mezcal, earth signs the chocolate martini and a $25 bottle, air signs prosecco and the Lavender Martini, water signs the chocolate and the Chocolate Manhattan.
The Classic Chocolate Martini is $10 during happy hour, against $19 on the full list. The Espresso, Raspberry and White Chocolate versions and the No. 19 are full price.
Two mocktails at $14, the Floral Spritz and the Midnight Bloom, both made to order. They are not part of happy hour pricing but they are properly made drinks.
Yes. The kitchen opens at 4 pm. Happy hour covers drinks only, but hummus and truffle waffle fries are $11 each and the White Truffle Pizza is $16.
Walk ins are welcome when there is space, but the room fills between 5:30 and 7 pm on event nights. Booking through Resy takes a minute.
Whether or not you believe in happy hour drinks by zodiac sign, $7 a glass between 4 and 6 pm makes the experiment cheap. Bring the table, compare notes, and argue about who got the right one.
