Give Your Papa Some Tapas

On the third Sunday of June every year, the nation honors its 70 million fathers. Although it wasn’t signed into law as a federal holiday until 1972 (by America’s ill-fated patriarch at the time, President Richard
Nixon), Father’s Day had become a national institution long before.

What started as a one-time memorial service to honor hundreds of fallen coal miners in Monongah,
Virginia in 1908 became one woman’s quest to give fathers their day in the sun, much like Mother’s Day.
Sonora Smart Dodd founded Father’s Day in Spokane, Washington in 1910. Known as “The Mother of
Father’s Day,” Dodd (a poet, sculptor and scribe) was perturbed while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon.
She wanted to show reverence to her own father, William Jackson Smart—a Civil War veteran and
widower who raised six children on his own—as well recognizing other fathers.
Her idea was endorsed by leaders in her community. Although she wanted to make her father’s birthday
(June 5 th ) the date of the event, scheduling conflicts pushed the date back to the third Sunday of the
month. The very first Father’s Day was held in the YMCA in Spokane Washington on June 19 th , 1910.

Give The Dad In Your Life A Gift He Won’t Hate

Poor Dads. Sure, thanks to Ms. Dodd they have their own day, but it will forever be in the shadow of
Mother’s Day. First of all, statistics show that people typically spend more, and feel more obligated to splurge on mom.
And then there’s the gifts. When Dads ranked their least favorite gifts, socks topped the list with ties
coming in second, followed by being forgotten or receiving no gift at all. Ouch.

This year, treat the Dad in your life to a truly unforgettable Father’s Day at Ayza Wine and Chocolate Bar.
From fabulous signature cocktails, beer and wine, to hand-crafted artisanal cheeses, delicious food, scrumptious desserts, and exquisite chocolates from Cioccolada, Jacques Torres and Michel Cluisel.

As far as special treats, we’ve got Dad covered there too. Bring Dad in for a unique wine and chocolate pairing that will knock the socks you didn’t buy for him on Father’s Day off. Introduce him to a chocolate martini, or alcohol-infused ice cream. Or treat him to our legendary Brunch with plenty of classic Brunch fare along with some inspired new twists.
Of course, gift cards are great too, so Dad can choose whatever he wants.
